Nicola Green is pleased to present her new body of work The Dance of Colour, a series of mixed media portraits which focuses on participants of the Rio Carnival in Brazil, expanding Green’s ongoing exploration of identity and race within contemporary culture.

Nicola Green successfully secured funding for the Diaspora Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale. Arts Council England has promised £300,000 for the Diaspora Pavilion, co-founded by Nicola Green and David A. Bailey of International Curator Forum (ICF).

Nicola Green is pleased to exhibit in ICON: Worthy of our 21st century attention? curated by Candida Stevens.

'The exhibition features 23 British figurative artists, who cast their gaze over our social, cultural, religious and political icons, through their 21st century looking glasses. Some are icons themselves and others are arguably creators of future iconic imagery. They cut through the bombardment of visuals, noise and information of our modern world and pick out the symbols, people and ideas that represent our thoughts, dominate our attention or are held up as worthy of our adulation.'

Nicola Green was delighted to donate Progress Plaza, to the Human Rights Watch's Annual Charity Auction. Progress Plaza (2008) is part of Nicola Greens acclaimed In Seven Days... series. This photo was taken by Nicola at 7am in Progress Plaza, North Philadelphia on Barnstorming day, 11th October 2008, 3 weeks before Obama’s first presidential election. This work is particularly poignant as the world now begins to focus on Obama’s legacy.

November 2015

Nicola Green presented ‘Nicola Green: A selection of work’ in November of 2015 curated by and exhibited at Jealous Gallery. Including one off and previously unseen works from her most well known projects, and a new silkscreen print titled Feet published by Jealous Gallery for this exhibit.

In November 2015 Nicola Green donated Fear, London Proof 1/1 to The Human Rights Watch Annual Auction. The Human Rights Watch is one of the world’s leading independent organisations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights. By focusing international attention where human rights are violated, they give voice to the oppressed and hold oppressors accountable for their crimes.

Fear is a unique work from Nicola Green’s In Seven Days… series:

“The image was inspired by a press conference I attended in January 2009 shortly before Obama’s presidency began. It is seen from Obama’s viewpoint – looking out into a sea of cameras, a sea of people, each of them wanting something. This is not just about the media pack; it is about all of us and what we expect from and of each other. The camera looks at us all and we have to ask ourselves what story we want to tell over the course of the 21st century” Nicola Green .

Grace 1/1 is a one-off artwork hand-printed on Perspex using water-based ink, and mounted in a bespoke artist-designed Quasar frame™. These frames light up and glow powered solely by existing natural light wherever they are installed, needing no battery or electricity. Grace 1/1 of 2012 is a unique artwork, which derives from Nicola Greens Quasar™ Olympic Project (2011).

Green donated Grace to Paintings in Hospitals, a charity who uses visual art and creative activities to improve the health and wellbeing of patients, carers and the public.

'Local Reflections: Nelson Mandela and the Haringey Anti-Apartheid Movement'

Amandla by Nicola Green was part of the Black History exhibition 'Local Reflections: Nelson Mandela and the Haringey Anti-Apartheid Movement' showing at Bruce Castle from 1st October – 21st December 2014. The exhibition featured artefacts, documents, photographs and artworks offering personal stories and experiences of Nelson Mandela from the Haringey community, of which Nicola is a part.

Nicola Green was among six prominent figures from different areas of the art world selected as judges for the annual ING Discerning Eye Exhibition. In November 2014 the artist curated a wall that concentrated on the theme of identity, focusing on this narrative by inviting young, underexposed and multi-cultural artists to exhibit on her wall.

Struggle, Red by Nicola Green from her series In Seven Days... 

On 9th July 2014, Nicola Green was among several top UK artists including Grayson Perry, Sir Anish Kapoor and Sir Anthony Gormley who generously donated artworks to be auctioned at a corporate fundraiser held by the Labour Party. Struggle, Red was specially created for the event by the artist and went for £12,000.

The first ever painted portrait of Elle Macpherson was unveiled at the Australian Embassy by the Australian High Commissioner, His Excellency, The Honourable Mike Rann, on the 19th of November. Four subsequent life sized prints of Elle titled: The Body are on public view in a unique selling exhibition at Flowers Gallery , Kingsland Road 20th-30th November.

The Portrait of Lord Jonathan Sacks is a permanent gift donated by Laura and Barry Townsley to the collection of The Jewish Museum, London and is on public display from Wednesday 30th of October 2013. The edition will also be available to view at Flowers Gallery.

This year Flowers Gallery will be exhibiting a selection of work at Multiplied Art Fair, Christie's. The fair is a contemporary art exhibition including prints, photographs and sculpture, and showcases both established and emerging artists.

Flowers Gallery will be presenting Nicola's Limited Edition Circle of Hands series.

August 2013

Darren Coffield's book Factual Nonsense: The Art and Death of Joshua Compston was published by Troubador in June 2013. The book features input from a selection of Compston's friends, family and artwork colleagues, including Nicola Green.

An exhibition of the same name, curated by Coffield, is on show at the Paul Stopler Gallery until 31 August 2013; the book and exhibit catalogue previously unseen artworks, photographs and ephemera of Compston, and are intended to give insight into his deteriorating mental state at the end of his life.

Nicola did a portrait of Joshua which was selected for the 2006 BP Portrait Award and exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, London. It is now in the Courtauld Institute of Art's permanent collection.

A panel discussion at Sir John Soane's Museum, 13 February 2013

On Wednesday 13th February 2013, Nicola was involved in a panel discussion at Sir John Soane's Museum alongside Labour MP and historian Tristram Hunt and architect David Adjaye, exploring the role of the artist in relation to politics, identity and history. Selected prints from Nicola's work In Seven Days... were on show at the museum from 13 - 27 February alongside Hogarth's series of paintings 'An Election' .

Nicola’s critically acclaimed series of silkscreen prints, In Seven Days... made its European debut in a solo exhibition at Liverpool’s Walker Art Gallery in January 2013. Telling the story of her experience inside President Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, the seven iconic prints were displayed alongside a selection of her sketches, notes and collected paraphernalia from the campaign trail. Not only providing an insight into the artists creative process, this material also gives a sense of the wider social story that is distilled in these striking images.
